My Role
Menu and flyer designer, where responsibilities included identifying key improvements to be made to flyer, studying nearby boba, tea and drink businesses to see current pricing, menu design and trends, and gathering customer feedback and suggestions of the current menu. I worked closely with the store manager to roll out iterations of the menu where we would review printed menus since there were sometimes discrepancies between digital and physical prints . Final deliverables are printed and laminated posters posted throughout the store and we are currently working on creating new street facing window posters that will entice more customers!
Identifying Problem
The store manager mentioned they would like new menus to be created as some items would be discontinued due to seasonality of the produce used as well as keeping up with the rising prices of all products used in production. They also requested that the menu to look similar yet different to excite customers of the new items to be rolled out as well as highlighting their best sellers. The shop also wanted to start selling bento boxes, something that as not been sold in the store as of yet and requested that a separate menu be created to highlight these new food items so they can hopefully expand the food menu with new creations! It was found often times customers would ask what is in the drinks, so the manager requested a more visual menu to give a gist of the main ingredients in each drink to hopefully clarify and answer any questions before they arose.
Aggregate Demographics:
Ages - 2 through 85
Types of Customers - Regulars, First Timers, Food Bloggers, Milk Tea Connoisseurs, Chicken Only Customers, "Customizers"
Goals:
Make an updated menu that is more visually different yet familiar to the old menu
Make menus easy to read and more pictoral for visual based readers and younger customers
Retain the essence of fun quality service served!
Frustrations:
Many customers frequently ask what is in the drinks or what a non pictured drink looks like
Some items need to be discontinued due to supply issues
Menu needs to look more sophisticated an updated to reflect current economic market
Brainstorming of Layout
We took the last created menu and kept some elements that we liked, such as sectioning of drinks based on type and keeping an ET specials section for customer favorite's as well as highlighting some of the more visually striking drinks and removing the snacks section to it's own menu.

Final Thoughts and Learnings
With this menu update, we realized we needed a baseline template that can be easily swappable and updated when prices flucate or when items go out of season. I was also a bit surprised to find that customers liked the darker background as it reminded them more of the outer space motif and set the menu apart from some of the more background picture laden menus that are seen in the local area. It was also great to see that some younger and skeptical customers be more receptive and order off the menu when they could tell what each drink looked liked as well as seeing some of the fruit that goes into each drink
